A vehicle service is something we all know we should get to keep our car from suddenly breaking down on us. Unfortunately, many people think that because they’ve had their Warrant of Fitness, then they don’t need a vehicle service. It may come as a surprise to some to find that the two aren’t the same, and having a WoF certainly doesn’t mean you can skip on the service.

Think of it like this; a Warrant of Fitness is simply a way to ensure that your car isn’t a danger to others on the road for the next six months. It’s a quick check up of the major systems and components of your car, but it’s not too thorough. A full vehicle service looks into your car more comprehensively, identifying little problems that could turn into big problems in the near future. And of course, as we all know, big problems mean big invoices! Finding out through a vehicle service that your brake pads are wearing down and have to be replaced in about 6 months at least gives you time to budget and save. If you’re simply driving along and waiting until your car fails its Warrant, then you’ll suddenly have a huge bill in front of you.

How often a vehicle service should be carried out depends on the age, condition and yearly kilometres of your car. If your car is over ten years old or you do more than 10,000 kms in a year, then ideally, you should be booking in for a vehicle service every six months. A younger model or infrequent use, then once a year should be fine for a comprehensive vehicle service.

Even a basic vehicle service can make a huge difference to your car. A basic service will usually include an oil and filter change, a brake check, fluid change (washer, anti-freeze etc) and anywhere up to a dozen other crucial component checks. Bring your vehicle in today for a proper service!
